December 2021 Recap and Favorites

It’s the end of yet another year where I feel like I wasn’t fully capable of living my best life. I know a lot of people are on their, “I have to live my life.” attitude and I’m just not there. I’m using this time to really buckle down and set myself up the future I deserve while simultaneously enjoying the present. I wrapped the year by getting some times in order that will really benefit not only myself, but others and I am super excited about that.

Once the calendar hits, December 1st, I’m locked in on the Mariah Carey Merry Christmas album. Of course, I tune into the five little Black boys that couldn’t celebrate Christmas, The Jackson 5. I also listen to Destiny’s Child 8 Days of Christmas as well as other Christmas songs.

Aside from the Christmas songs, I played the Ungodly Hour album over and over. Chlöe x Halle can do no wrong. I listened to Beyoncé, Megan thee Staillion, Alex Isley, India Shaw, Doja Cat, Tinashe, and Janet Jackson. Just to name a few.

I wrapped up the year with Insecure. I’ve tuned into that incredible show on Sundays for five years and it was such an incredible series finale. Issa Rae is such an inspiration and that was only reinforced when I watched the Insecure documentary on New Year’s Eve day. I can’t even imagine having such an incredible impact on the lives of creatives, specifically Black creatives. She and Prentice Penny completely changed the trajectory of so many people’s lives.

I’ve been inspired by so many people this year. One of whom is Doja Cat. She’s innovative, sticks to a theme while not making it boring, and is honest about being overworked and needing a break. Megan thee Stallion finished her degree despite all she’s been through and had such a successful year and she also prioritized her health. Simone Biles and Naomi Osaka valuing their mental health over their respective sports while being at the top of their game was inspiring.

Resting, taking things slow, and figuring out how to get the ball rolling for myself is how I spent the last month of the year. Complacency is not a good look on me. I had to learn that it’s important to just get started and that’s what I talked about in one of my latest YouTube videos. I did accomplish a good bit of things this year.

At the beginning of the year, I started off with 24 subscribers and an inactive blog. I closed the year with 396 subscribers on YouTube and a blog that gets hits all over the world daily. I launched a podcast that is listened to all over the world too. 2021 is the year that I think I really got my footing and truly felt like I can achieve everything I set my mind to.
