Fashion Companies to Work for in Charleston, South Carolina
I majored in Fashion Merchandising & Apparel Design in college and while I had thought about moving to New York City after graduation as any fashion student not already living in the city would, I knew that moving to NYC was not the best choice for me at the time. As I started preparing for my job search, I started a list of apparel and fashion companies to work for outside of New York City and Los Angeles. I am sharing my list and breaking it down first starting with the Charleston–North Charleston, SC Metropolitan Statistical Area. I am sharing companies that have career opportunities outside of retail in areas such as design, merchandising, buying, and planning. Brackish is a men’s and women’s accessories company known for their feathered bowties.
Gildan is an apparel manufacturing company that hosts a portfolio comprised of mainly activewear brands.
Gwynn’s is a family-owned luxury department store that has been operating since 1967.
Hampden Clothing is a store located on King Street that carries a wide assortment of designer clothing, accessories, and shoes.
Free Fly Apparel is a family-owned outdoor performance apparel company.
Palmetto Moon is a southern lifestyle women and men’s clothing store headquartered in North Charleston.
Ben Silver is a family-owned high-end clothing store with a wide assortment of classic clothing for gentlemen and a smaller women’s assortment located on King Street.
I have probably applied to work at most if not all of there companies haha. Charleston is a great place to get your start working in fashion and I recommend getting even more experience by working or volunteer with Charleston Fashion Week. If you do wish to remain in the area there is room for growth, but if not, it is a great place to learn and gain experience. I recommend networking with people who work at these companies by reaching out on LinkedIn.
